Dame Mary Lucy Cartwright was born on 17 December 1900 in Aynho, Northamptonshire, England. Mary Cartwright was the first woman mathematician to be elected to the Royal Society. She became Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge. Dame Mary Lucy Cartwright died on 3 April 1998 in Cambridge, England.
