Stanislaw Marcin Ulam (1909 - 1984)

Stanislaw Marcin Ulam was born on 13 April 1909 in Lemberg, Austrian Empire (now Lviv, Ukraine). Ulam solved the problem of how to initiate fusion in the hydrogen bomb. He also devised the ‘Monte-Carlo method’ widely used in solving mathematical problems using statistical sampling. Stanislaw Marcin Ulam died on 13 May 1984 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.
