John Scott Russell was born on 9 May 1808 in Parkhead, near Glasgow, Scotland. John Scott Russell was a Scottish engineer and naval architect best known for his identification of a solitary wave: a precursor of today’s solitons. John Scott Russell died on 8 June 1882 in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England.
