Walter Brown was born on 29 April 1886 in Glasgow, Scotland. Walter Brown graduated from Glasgow University and took up a post at Hong Kong University. He was interned by the Japanese in World War II and on his release he returned to Scotland and posts at Glasgow Technical College and Glasgow University. On retirement he travelled extensively in South America and Africa. Walter Brown died on 14 April 1957 in Marandellas, near Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe).
