Johannes Widman was born 1462 in Eger, Bohemia (now Cheb, Czech Republic). Johannes Widman was a German mathematician who is best remembered for an early arithmetic book which contains the first appearance of + and - signs. Johannes Widman died in 1498 in Leipzig, Germany.
